Emmanuel, God is with us!

Have you ever gone through a difficult situation all alone? Have you ever turned to tell a friend something and realize there was no one their, no friend to be found? Sometimes we experience challenges in life where we feel alone. There are even times when we are in a crowded room and people are talking all around us and yet, we feel all alone. This is a difficult place to be in. Why do we sometimes feel this way? Because we live in a fallen world; because we face challenges; because plans do not always work out, we sometimes feel all alone.

The good news about Jesus is one of the names applied to Him is, Emmanuel. Matthew 1:23 says "She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’” This is what Christmas is about! It is about God coming to live with us. We never have to be alone. Yes, there are times when we feel alone, but it does not mean we are alone. God is with us, through the Presence of His Son Jesus. May the Holy Spirit make the Presence of God so real to us.

I love the words of the Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 4:16-17. Paul is in prison and he was scheduled to appear before the judge and he was all alone. Listen to what he says: "At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: ... Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me;" The Lord was there with him.

Remember, Christmas is about Jesus, Emmanuel, coming to us so that we would never have to be alone again. Rejoice in the Lord and remember His goodness. And remember, God is with us!

This is today

Pastor Gary
